Secrets of Golf...
Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. A child can play it well and a grown man can never master it. Any single round is full of unexpected triumphs and perfect shots that end in disaster. It is almost a science, yet it is a puzzle without an answer. It is gratifying and tantalizing, precise and unpredictable; it requires complete concentration and total relaxation. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without doubt the greatest game.

Learning golf is just like learning any other motor skill such as typing, drawing, or playing a musical instrument. Learning comes in stages and steps because there are so many details and movements one has to do in a 1-2 seconds long swing. That’s why a lot of players can never be satisfied with their golf game, or play well, no matter how long they’ve been playing. But if a player plans his or her time and environment well enough, the process of mastering golf can take less and less time.
The first stage that you have to master before you even move your swing is the pre-short routine. This includes many fine details you have to remember and be able to repeat them precisely every time you approach your shortapproach your short; the things you can’t do without . The pre-shot routine includes:
- Gripping:
- Posture:
- Stance:
- Ball Position:
- Aiming and Alignment:
This effects direction, speed, tempo, and balance.
This effects direction, balance, distance, and short quality.
This effects power, balance, impact, trajectory, and distance.
This effects direction, trajectory, and short quality.
This effects direction and sharpness.
The next stage is the swing. You have to be able to use your selective muscles and move your body, shift your weight and accelerate your swing in time and in the right sequence. You have to be able to swing on plane; impact, follow-through, release and finish at the right moment and at the right angle.
When you move your body in a manner time and time again, it becomes your habit, or muscle memory or repeatability. So if you move right since the beginning you’ll move right for all your life; provided that you play regularly. But if your movement since the beginning is wrong and you keep doing it that way, you’ll be like that for all your life too, and correction may be next to impossible.
So that's the secrets of mastering golf. You have to know what's really right and keep doing it until you feel comfortable and confident with it, and be flexible enough to get rid of any harmful habit.
